Colloquium
The colloquium is one of the cornerstone of WIMSE. Students are provided an opportunity to meet Women who are working in the fields of Math, Science and Engineering. Students take the course for the fall and spring semester of their first year in the program. The course typically meets one evening out of the week. Students receive one credit hour and earn a letter grade. The grade is earned primarily through participation in activities, a presentation and a paper. The two main components are:
-
Lab Visits-Students are able to visit the labs of various FSU professors. Through the lab visits some students have located research opportunities.
-
Guest Speakers-Mathematicians, Scientists and Engineers from FSU and universities across the country speak to WIMSE students about their research, and life as a women in their field.
